Beau Wine Tours loves to connect visitors to the best wineries and tasting experiences in Napa Valley. If you love the region’s big Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot wines, the Stags Leap District is a can’t-miss appellation. This storied area is home to famous producers, breathtaking estates, and some of the best Bordeaux varieties California wine country has to offer. Today, we’d like to take you on a virtual tour of some of our favorite stops in Stags Leap, all great additions for your Napa Valley winery tour.
Shafer Vineyards
6154 Silverado Trail
Napa, CA 94558
(707) 944-2877
Shafer Vineyards is a must-see in the Stags Leap District. John Shafer not only founded the winery, but led the effort to gain formal recognition of the Stags Leap District as its own AVA back in 1985. The winery has other significant milestones, too: noted wine critic Robert Parker named it one of the world’s greatest wineries in 2003, and in 2010, John and son Doug Shafer were named “Wine and Spirits Professionals of the Year” by the James Beard Foundation. Taste this family’s passion for the Stags Leap District through their extensive wine portfolio, in “one of Napa’s best tasting experiences,” according to Wine Spectator.
Quixote Winery
6126 Silverado Trail
Napa, CA 94558
(707) 944-2659
Quixote Winery is a great option for wine lovers with a sense of humor! Owner Carl Doumani commissioned the whimsical architect, artist, and ecologist Friedensreich Hundertwasser to create an eco-conscious winery that would combat what he thought was excessive seriousness. That said, the winemaking process is treated with meticulous attention, including hand-picking and hand-sorting from estate vineyards, to yield highly-sought-after wines. Tastings are by appointment only, so plan ahead to make sure you can include this stop on your Napa Valley winery tour.
Clos Du Val
5330 Silverado Trail
Napa, CA 94558
(707) 261-5212
Known for their rich red blends, Clos Du Val offers a great way to taste the magic of the Stags Leap District with their Three Graces and other famous Cabernets. The winery’s first vintage dates back to 1972, but just recently, the winemaking team opted to cut back on production to focus on the Stags Leap fruit that put the winery on the map in the first place. Couple their lauded portfolio—which also includes Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines—with their beautiful estate, and you can’t miss Clos Du Val on your Napa Valley winery tour.
Realm Cellars
5795 Silverado Trail
Napa, CA 94558
(707) 224-1910
Though relatively new on the scene, Realm Cellars has worked hard to establish itself as a purveyor of fine Stags Leap District wines. Their tenacity makes for a great story, and their wine portfolio demonstrates commitment both to place and variety. But make sure to contact the winery ahead of time – appointments are limited and by reservation only. Though ongoing construction may be in progress during your visit, this is a special opportunity for your Napa Valley winery tour: you get to see a dream coming to life. Check out the “anecdotes” the winery offers visitors to the site for a unique glimpse into Realm’s history in the making.
Regusci Winery
5584 Silverado Trail
Napa, CA 94558
(707) 254-0403
The Regusci Ranch has been producing Bordeaux varietals since the 1960s, and visitors today can also take in the Regusci gardens to observe the estate’s total commitment to sustainability. The popular tasting room requires reservations for weekend visits, but it’s worth the stop on your Napa Valley winery tour – the Ranch was built before Prohibition, and has one of Napa Valley’s only ghost wineries! The wines reflect an expertise and artistry that comes from many decades of growing expertise; both current-release and library selections are available.
