Sonoma Events for August and September 2016

Harvest time in Sonoma County will be here soon, bringing out the very best in wine country. From the golden evenings and the vineyards heavy with grapes to special winemaker dinners and harvest festivals celebrating this region’s bounty. There are endless places to visit in Sonoma County this time of year. We want to share with you some of the events that should be on your calendar.

QuiviraQuivira Vineyards2016 Farm-to-Table Dinner Series

Through September 18th

One of the best things you can do when you’re visiting wine country is to attend a winemaker dinner like Quivira’s completely immersive biodynamic food and wine experience. This family owned winery produces hand-crafted, estate-grown wines including Zinfandel and Sauvignon Blanc in the Dry Creek Valley. Imagine a meal where the entire menu, including the wine, has been grown mere feet from where you will be dining. Keeping with the spirit of Quivira’s self-sustaining and biodynamic estate, partnering restaurants will be preparing distinct menus featuring produce and wines where everything has been grown and nurtured on their estate, even down to the compost that nourishes the farm.

Each partner restaurant will bring an entirely unique perspective using only ingredients from Quivira’s estate. Dinners are served al fresco and feature courses, paired with their wines that are intimately connected to this special property.

September 2nd-4th

Every Sonoma Wine Country Weekend event sells out each year, as thousands of guests join hundreds of chefs, wineries and artisan food purveyors, all gathering for three full days of elaborate lunches, dinners, and the showcase events: Taste of Sonoma, and the Sonoma Valley Harvest Auction.

Not sure where to start? We’ll help! Kick off Friday with a winemaker lunch at the breathtakingly beautiful Beltane Ranch, then head to the Sonoma Starlight party at Francis Ford Coppola Winery, for a poolside gala complete with live music and dancing, 20+ wineries pouring their best, and plenty of Sonoma County food. A chance to experience the fabulous Coppola winery after hours, is a very special experience!

On Saturday, join Taste of Sonoma at MacMurray Ranch, where more than 170 wineries and 60 of Sonoma County’s top chefs serve guests with food, drink, and a rich array of educational and entertaining events staged all-day long. On Sunday, it’s the Sonoma Harvest Wine Auction at Chateau St. Jean Winery, or perhaps you’re in the mood for a more casual winemaker barbecue. Here’s a tip: try to fit in both. The auction is glamor all the way, as hundreds of bidders compete for such mouthwatering prizes as spa days, cooking classes, 100-bottle wine collections, and a three-day weekends at private winery cottages.

September 16th-18th

Join 13 wineries in Sonoma County this September for an unforgettable harvest experience. This is your chance to get a hands-on opportunity in wine country. Meet the winemakers, learn about harvest and taste amazing wines. Wineries will be grape sampling in the vineyards, offering crush pad tours, sampling fresh pressed juice and grapes picked fresh off the vine. You may even have an opportunity to taste a wine while it’s fermenting and learn how to read a Refractometer to gain a deeper understanding about the importance of the balance between sugar and acid levels in wine grapes. The access will be unparalleled and there is no more perfect time of year than harvest to take a peek behind the scenes.

This is an amazing opportunity to learn all about harvest.
