The Napa Valley is a special place. Throughout the year there are many unique events and occasions, but few truly exemplify greatness like Premiere Napa Valley. This ultra-exclusive, trade only event is being held on Friday and Saturday, February 24th and 25th 2017. Premiere Napa Valley is a by-invitation-only event, as are the many privately hosted winery events that week. You must be a pre-registered member of the wine trade to attend and participate in the online auction. It is a one of a kind fundraiser to help support, promote, protect and enhance the Napa Valley appellation. Sommeliers, distributors and wine buyers of all kinds, from all over the world come to taste wine with the superstars of winemaking, all while bidding on a chance to bring home some of the rarest wine in the world. Local wineries donate amazing wines in order to help the Napa Valley Vintners association achieve goals that benefit everyone, especially those who get to take home these incredible auction lots!
Every winter, the Napa Valley Vintners kicks off the year with Premiere Napa Valley which features a live barrel auction as well as an online auction. The online auction starts on Friday at 9am and is stacked with auction items that could make any wine lover race to the nearest computer. Special blends, single vineyards and unique varieties are offered in a one-time setting. Nothing like them will be made again. Also on Friday, Hall Wines is hosting a special blind tasting of vertical Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2012, 2013 and 2014 vintages from producers throughout the Napa Valley. While these are the main events, there is much more reason to celebrate.
In addition to the official events, many wineries, restaurants and resorts host invite only parties with stellar wines, and one of the most sought after is the tasting with Atelier Melka. Philippe Melka’s name pops up more and more as you read the list of participating wineries as he is one of the busiest consultants in the world. His list of clients is as long as the list of accolades for them, and at this premium event, you can try most of the wine Philippe helps to produce from the length and breadth Napa Valley. If you can get into this event, you will be rewarded with some of the most coveted wines in all of California.
Saturday, February 25th is the big day on the schedule for Premiere. The biggest names in Napa Valley bring out their best wines for this industry only crowd. This is the highlight of the week at The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone and allows you to taste and talk with proprietors and winemakers from over 200 Napa wineries as you sip their wines straight from oak wine barrels. The school’s chefs dish up culinary delights that perfectly accent the buzz of a live auction. From 1-4 pm the live auction is the main event at Premiere Napa Valley and the auction lots are true gems of the wine world. If you have never experienced a live wine auction it is action packed and, considering the quality of the wines, truly energetic to be around!
