With so many wineries to choose from in the Napa Valley for incredible wine tasting experiences we wanted to share more of the gems that we take our guests to.
Nickel & Nickel
8164 St Helena Hwy,
Oakville, CA 94562
(707) 967-9600
Nickel & Nickel is located in Oakville, Napa Valley, along Highway 29, on 42 acres that were originally settled as a farmstead in the 1880s. The historic farmstead comes alive amongst the classically built barns and the original Queen Ann style home that is now the tasting room. The historic surroundings belie the ultra modern nature of this unique winery and what lies beneath this Napa Valley winery may be the greatest surprise.
Accessed by descending a stairway housed in a traditional stone outbuilding, their 30,000 square-foot subterranean barrel cellar appears as a beautifully dramatic and unexpected room. Located beneath the fermentation barns, wine is moved gently from tank to barrel through the cellar’s custom-formed hollow columns. Each row of French oak barrels represents an entire vintage of each of their single-vineyard wines. They take every effort to steward their resources and contribute to the environmental well being of the community. Read more about their sustainable practices here.
You’ll start out your wine tasting and tour with a glass of Chardonnay in the front room of the Sullenger House, where you’ll get the intro lesson from the tour guide before stepping out to walk about the property. The grounds are beautiful, with old reconstructed barns and flawless landscaping. You’ll walk through the historic farmstead: the restored 18th century Gleason Barn, authentic post-and-beam fermentation barns, and underground barrel aging cellar. The tour ends with a seated, guided tasting of a selection of their single-vineyard wines beautifully paired with artisanal cheeses.
Viader

Deer Park, CA 94576

Viader offers an unforgettable Napa Valley wine tasting experience, where the wines are as breathtaking as the views. Let us take you up to their mountain vineyard and winery estate and enjoy their wines on the terrace overlooking the vineyards and the beautiful Napa Valley. Robert Parker, Jr. of the Wine Advocate described their location as “one of the most magnificently situated vineyards in California.”
Recognized for producing classic Bordeaux-style red wines, Viader has also been listed as one of the “Napa Wineries with the Best Views” in San Francisco’s 7×7 magazine. Founded in 1986 by Delia Viader, Viader is located 1200 feet above the Napa Valley floor just northeast of St. Helena on the steep, rocky slopes of Howell Mountain. Emulating a European design quite rare in California, the vines are oriented up and down the steep hillsides, a planting method that optimizes sun exposure, vine density and erosion control. Planting on such a steep grade of 32 % is a challenge and requires meticulous hand farming.
You’ll have a couple of wine tour and wine tasting options when you book a visit. Their Portfolio Wine Tasting is their most popular tasting experience. It includes a wine flight of 3–4 current release wines from their Viader and Dare by Viader selections, many of which are only available at the winery or through the wine club. The Reserve Library Wine Tasting focuses on older vintages of the highly coveted signature blend, VIADER “Liquid Cashmere” and includes a Complimentary Winery & Cave Tour. Wines are also paired with seasonal cheeses. The Cellar Experience Wine Tasting, Winery & Cave Tour: this private experience is available for parties of up to 8 guests. Join second-generation winemaker, Alan Viader on a tour of the winery followed by a reserve library wine tasting.
