When you arrive, you’ll notice the amazing landscaping. We wrote about the gardening wonders of Far Niente here. Whenever the time of your visit, the plants will be resplendent in their seasonal glory. Upon entering the main reception area, you’ll see your name on the welcome board and be shown in to a cozy room where you’ll get a little summary of the winery’s history. Wine tours begin with a walk through of the historic, tri-level winery, which is built into the surrounding hillside.

Guests are then led through a portion of the 40,000 square-foot Far Niente wine aging caves <http://farniente.com/napa-wine-estate/winery-caves/>, which were the first modern wine caves built in North America when excavation began in 1980. They’re lined with barrels of Chardonnay, Cabernet, and Dolce (their dessert wine) and further down in the cave system there’s a special room where older vintage bottles are stored. Before you return to the main building to start tasting the wine, the tour makes a brief pit stop in one more building, where the owner’s car collection is kept. There you’ll spy the classic Ferrari and Alfa Romeo, Jaguar E-Type and a very unique aluminum-bodied Bentley!

Wine tastings follow each tour and feature the current releases of Far Niente estate wines, including a Napa Valley Chardonnay and Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as carefully aged Chardonnay and Cabernet from the Far Niente Cave Collection. A seasonal cheese pairing is also featured. Each tasting ends with a taste of Dolce, the sumptuous, late harvest wine produced by Far Niente’s sister winery, also called Dolce. You’ll leave with the satisfaction of a full on tasting experience done by some of the best.

NewtonNewton Vineyards
2555 Madrona Ave, St Helena, CA 94574
(707) 963-9000
www.newtonvineyards.com

Newton Vineyard was one of the first wineries on Spring Mountain, a rugged yet serene appellation located west of St. Helena on the eastern flank of the Mayacamas range. Following the wine, the grounds are nothing short of gorgeous, and be sure to check out the grounds with English and Japanese inspired gardens. The estate has a history with its British founder before being acquired by Moët Hennessy, and the guide will be sure to fill you in. This in-depth winery tour visits their famous English gardens, moves through a portion of their Chardonnay cellars and finishes with a seated tasting of specially selected wines.

You’ll take time examining the vines and the cellar and even short sojourn in a six-wheeler vehicle up the steep slope through the vineyard on your way to Pino Solo, the iconic tree located at the top of the property. Newton’s approach to winemaking is meticulous, using techniques based on an old-world style including natural fermentation and bottling without filtration. The grapes are handled with care, hand-picked in small lots and transferred to the cellar for gentle pressing. When you’re visiting Napa Valley, a trip to Spring Mountain is a must!

Kelly FlemingKelly Fleming Wines
2339 Pickett Rd, Calistoga, CA 94515
(707) 942-6849
www.kellyflemingwines.com

Kelly Fleming Wines was launched in 1998 with the purchase of a 300 acre parcel of land on Pickett Road in the Napa Valley sub-appellation of Calistoga. Kelly says it best when she states “This is Cabernet Sauvignon country.” The first vines, a total of eight acres, went into the ground in 1999. Six years later another four were developed, with no plans for additional plantings on this largely wild tract of land. The site, which was selected for its soils is nestled between two scenic canyons on a craggy slope at the northern end of the property the land had no history of vines. Firmly committed to conscientious land stewardship, they practice sustainable farming, utilizing the best viticultural management practices. Only a small percentage of the land is committed to vines in order to preserve the pristine nature of this beautiful setting with its seasonal creeks, tree-covered hills and abundant wildlife.

A visit to Kelly Fleming Wines will guarantee you an incredible experience at this charming, intimate family owned winery. If you’re looking for a unique, boutique experience in Napa this is the place. We’ll work with Kelly to craft an unforgettable and intimate tasting including wine tastings of their Estate Winery produced Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Big Pour Napa Valley Red Wine, Sauvignon Blanc and a Rosé of Cabernet. This is the wine to keep your eyes on. A must see and taste for any true wine connoisseur.
