One of the most exciting new tasting rooms just opened recently, and has Napa wine fans very interested. Owner Dr. Jan Krupp and his Stagecoach Vineyards have been well known for many years for its special terroir and has been sold to many of Napa’s most iconic wineries. Dr. Krupp carefully selects and meticulously tends a fraction of his own vineyard to make his own Krupp Brothers label. Otherwise it is a huge vineyard with over 600 planted acres dedicated to 17 different varietals from Cabernet Sauvignon to Tempranillo and Marsanne which the Dr. and his talented winemaking team know intimately. And now, they have a beautiful tasting room in downtown Napa right near the Oxbow Public Market. After years of hard work in a rugged outpost of the valley, it is wonderful news for wine drinkers that sampling these wines with signature tasting bites to complement. This is a tasting room our wine tour guests have been waiting for!

Braving steep and rocky terrain on the east slope of the Napa Valley is a ‘micro-crafted’ winery called VinRoc. Their location features sunny days with cool nights that significantly intensify the color and flavor of the Cabernet Sauvignon here. Starting with micro climates within the vineyards, and finishing with micro vinification in the cellars, the technique produces small quantities of high quality boutique wines. The name sums up the unique terroir and physically describes the rock strewn vineyard. At 1600 feet of elevation, the vineyard is always above the fog and receives more sun than vineyards planted lower. The vines struggle in volcanic and iron rich red soil, with special attention to when these tiny plots within the vineyard are perfectly ripe. They are picked individually and consequently vinified separately to maintain their distinction. After two years in French Oak, the separate parcels are blended again to produce a rich and complex finished wine that is a true pleasure to enjoy.

In the year 2000, Vineyard 29 grew from a vineyard to a full scale winery under the stewardship of Chuck and Anne McMinn. They acquired the historic Aida vineyard that same year. They built a brand new state of the art winery and brought in renowned winemaker Philippe Melka, who creates the wines from the soil up. The Aida Estate Vineyard still has some old vine Zinfandel planted in 1973, but is now mostly planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, the backbone of production. The Aida Vineyard is ideal for Bordeaux varietals and is located just north of the pinch in the hourglass that is the shape of the Napa Valley. At Vineyard 29, they believe that great wines are made in the vineyard. Their commitment is manifested in diligent care to the vines and wines produced at this world class winery.
