Arts in April in the Napa Valley 2015

April will soon be upon us again and we happily welcome back spring to the Napa Valley. It is a delight for the senses and April also honors artists of all kinds during its annual Arts In April event. A month long intinerary of cultural and artist events fill wineries from the south to north end of the valley. Some of our favorite wineries are taking it up a notch, not only hosting special Arts In April events but highlighting their permanent installations available to visit all year round.

Hess Collection

4411 Redwood Road, Napa, CA 94558
(707) 255-1144

Donald Hess began collecting art in 1966. Today, The Hess Collection houses less than a quarter of a collection that is shown in museums worldwide. When visiting the collection you can quickly tell Donald collects based on his love of art rather than following trends. As a body of work in itself, The Hess Art Collection represents an extraordinary and ever-expanding, in-depth look at over sixty artists and is acknowledged as one of the largest collections of its kind. Featured artists include photo realist painter Franz Gertsch, founding member of Abstract Expressionism School Robert Motherwell, renowned artist Francis Bacon and many more. Take an hour or more strolling through the 3 stories of art before a seated wine tasting outside under the pergolas.

On Sunday, April 5, 2015, 11am – 2pm for Arts In April, enjoy a preview of Festival del Sole’s landmark tenth season, coming this July. The Hess Collection – a 2015 festival event host – invites guests to take part in an afternoon of live music paired with their extraordinary wine and contemporary art collection. General Admission and VIP Tasting Experience tickets available.

Mumm Napa Valley
8445 Silverado Trail, Napa, CA 94558
(707) 967-7700

Mumm Napa Valley is home to twenty-seven gelatin silver prints created by Ansel Adams. This collection includes many of Ansel’s most famous photographs including Monolith, the Face of Half Dome, Yosemite National Park, Winter Sunrise from Lone Pine, and Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico. Adams made more than 40,000 photographs during his career and Mumm houses some of the best. His technical expertise is legendary, and he was a prolific writer of articles and books, many of which set standards for generations of photographers. The permanent installation is entitled Poetry of Light. We suggest a tasting on the Oak Terrace, followed by winery and art tour.

For Arts In April, Mumm Napa is hosting the photography of Graham Nash, legendary musician and founding member of Crosby, Stills and Nash and The Hollies. He is an internationally renowned photographer and digital imaging pioneer who’s revealing work captures the brilliant, unexpected surrealism of daily life. Curated exclusively for the Fine Art Photography Gallery at Mumm Napa, the exhibit includes more than 50 photographs that beautifully illustrate Nash’s celebrated talent as a compelling storyteller. The exhibit includes artfully crafted photos of friends such as David Crosby, Jerry Garcia and Johnny Cash. This exhibit will be up through May 31st.
